Chamberland and Shelby

Postby uantiti » 17 Jan 2009, 18:00

Hi everybody,
a friend of mine asked me if I could help him on what follows:

1) sometimes ago my friend found in Tuscany, where a WWII battle took place, a medal (not a dog tag) bearing a name R.C. Chamberland. After some searches, he found out that in Florence in the American Battle Monuments there is a Raymond L. Chamberland #31292632 who was killed in action in Tuscany. This soldier was born in Rhode Island, Kent County in 1924 abt. My friend got the idea that the medal could have belonged to a member of his family (father/mother) who gave it to him as a present. Would it be possible to see if there is a Census for this family having a member named R.C. Chamberland?

2) He also found a dog tag belonging to an American soldier Levi L. Shelby #36852676. How can he find who was he and where is his family?

I can assure you my friend is not trying to make any profit but would be much grateful for any information/direction you might give him.

Ada

There are 9 Chamberlands in West Warwick, Rhode Island. One is Teresa aged 87 who might be an older sister. Go to www.numberway.com and just put in Chamberland and Westwarwick, RI. =Peter=

Peter..Can you please PM the information to Ada?

Just a reminder everyone,,,,

Please do not post any information about living persons on the board. PM the information when ever possible or provide the link to the source. We recently ran into issues with this and we don't want any repeat performances.

Thanks!

It might come out something interesting to read..... 8O .

Thank you Peter for your suggestion. I think my friend looked up in the US white pages but I will tell him to try this site too . The problem seems to be Levi L. Shelby of whom he couldn't find any information.

Thanks again,

Ada

Dear Uantiti,

Since there were only 9 Chamberland's listed in West Warwick, Rhode Island I selected the one aged 78 years of age who fits the criteria for WW11 soldiers who were born between 1920 to 1925 and later as the war progressed. The woman I selected has a relative living with her also with the surname Chamberland and she may be his wife or sister of the deceased WW11 soldier.

As for Levy L. Shelby there are 36 in the USA so I left a message for an old associate in Washington DC to check for the dog tag# and hopefully he will call me or send me an e-mail with the information. In the meantime, if he does not give me the information we need about Shelby then you have to go to www.govmilitaryrecords.com with a $30.00 charge to find the information. If she wants to wait for me to obtain an answer through my associate then I will call him Tuesday if he does not get back to me tomorrow. =Peter=
