Interesting. Although, I think it's hard to do a genealogy project without spending ANY money, and having Ancestry.com can make things MUCH easier. I'm not a big RootsWeb fan, as it is user based and a tad inaccurate. FamilySearch.com is pretty good though. Here is a great website for people who have ancestors from West Virginia: http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_select.aspx

It's amazing! I found stuff on there I could never find on Ancestry.com.
My Italian surnames:

Caserta: Maietta, Rossano, Tessitore, Negro, Peluso, Musone

Campobasso: D'Andrea, Barile

Catanzaro: Fiorelli/Fiorillo, Romito
