Baptism Records

Post by mozzie »

I am just about to apply to the Catholic Diocese in Cleveland Ohio for the Baptism records of my Aunts and Uncles (circa 1915-1924) to see if I can glean anymore information for my Family Tree. Has anybody tried this before?. Is it a worthwile exercise?

Your milage may vary, but the few baptism records I have contain little useful information.

Code: Select all

  Parent's names
Child's name, date, and place of birth
  Sponsor's ("Godparent's") names
Name of the officiating priest, baptism date, church name and location
So the only useful bits might be the parent's names, if you don't already have them.

You may have better luck with the death records. Unless the person reporting didn't know the parent's names the names should be there.

The LDS pilot site has full Ohio death records online for free. I just got a few death records there myself.

If you find the person you're looking for - click on the image (top right) and be sure to review the actual image because some of the transcriptions are a little off.
