Ancestry US Naturalization Records

Postby Biff83 » 03 Jul 2008, 22:16

I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same problem I have for the past week or so. When Ancestry initially released the naturalization records, I was able to locate original images from the Middle District of PA for my family and attach them to individuals on my Ancestry tree. However, a little bit ago when I did a search for the same records I got zero hits and the linked records on my tree showed up with zilch when I tried to display them. Strange.

I have also noticed some strange things on ancestry over the last week or so. Perhaps its time to report the issue to ancestry directly. What do you think?

Earlier this week I was looking at certain records when I lost my internet connection, after signing back on I did the same search and did not get the same results as before........I had to re-enter the name twice in order to get back to what I had prior to the lost connection....... :?

Biff, my two cents

I tried searching the Middle District of PA by name & got no results.

I checked the database & it's there

The notes for the database:
"This database only includes indexes to naturalization records.
Therefore, you will not find all of the above listed information for each record type in this database.
Instead, you will find information that will help you locate the original records that the indexes reference."

Question for you
Did you find the petition or declaration # on footnote.com then
use the index # on ancestry to find the record?
Maybe not, since I'm not sure how you would have then linked it to
your family page.

I suppose it's possible that they changed the search option for the
records, but I can't understand why your link wouldn't stll work.

Sidenotes:
I tried the new search feature instead of using the advanced search.
It's using a different search criteria for location -
it won't allow exact searches by town, county, state.
Instead it's using town, state, USA from a drop down menu.

Also they added a new Home Page for 'signed on' users two days
ago with mixed responses from subscribers.

I guess that was 3 cents  ,

Thanks for the responses.

I located the naturalization records by doing searches on Ancestry using first and last names without referencing any index #'s from footnote. On my grandfather's page under the icons for historical records on the right, the naturalization records appear but when you click on the icon to view the image, it comes up with nothing.

Nuccia and Valarie, you can check what I mentioned above by going to view my family tree since you both still have "visiting privileges."

As far as the new Home Page goes, I've been having on and off problems since they switched. Hopefully, they'll get the bugs worked out but I was quite happy with the previous set up.

Biff, I checked "Giuseppe Epifano Declaration of Intention"
and the link to the document worked ok. Do you have another
example?

Uh, oh! If you clicked on the icon for the naturalization documents on the right hand side and linked to an image, I've got some kind of problem since I get nothing. All the other links work--census, manifest, draft cards. Strange.

HI Biff,

I also clicked on a link for Joseph Bifano. The Naturalization link was attached to the two census records.

Is this what you are asking?

Hi Nuccia :D !

Although the source citations to the naturalization records are there, when I try to view the original document all I get is a blank screen. Do you think we should continue this discussion via PMs or is it okay on the forum?

Hmmm,

I think either way is fine. PM's at this point is better. But we can leave this thread open in case others are having a similar issue. Maybe someone has a solution.

I have been having trouble viewing original documents. I have gone days and not able to view a document, only the record. Searches I have done many times are not coming up with the same results. I figured too many were online so have waited for a slow period. No luck. Sometimes I can view a document and most of the time I cannot.

I have registered my problem with Ancestry and hoping they will get whatever fixed.

Here's what I think happened or is happening based on what I saw this morning. Originally, naturalization original document images were included with the indexes--"U.S. Naturalization Records Indexes, 1794-1995." Now they have their own category--"U.S. Naturalization Records - Original Documents, 1795-1972." This transfer invalidated the initial web addresses of those records and thus the links are broken. However, there is still a problem with the new Original Documents since there is no way to:
"Attach this record to a person in your tree as a source record, or save for later evaluation." The SAVE option at this point doesn't exist. 8O

Hoping that Ancestry is working on the problem.

Will do so! I haven't had much luck ever getting a response but hoping this time I will. I am sure others are having the same problems we are.

I am sure it will all eventually get fixed but who knows when.
