Earthquake - ItalGen ?

Post by peonygirl »

Just a note - wondered how you all fared with the earthquake - not sure how close to it you may live or work. I don't see any evidence of a slip in service here, so I'm guessing you were not affected.

If there is a way we can help our Italian cousins from across the ocean, let us know.

Keeping your country in my prayers....Peonygirl

Thanks for posting. I'm wondering the same - if everyone is okay and if there's a way to help.

I was deeply sad to hear of this tragedy and my thoughts and prayers have been with Italy and especially those who have lost family members, or are still desperately hoping and praying that their loved ones will be found alive. It is an incredibly traumatic time for so many. Love and prayers.

I have not long returned from there and can't believe the events unfolding in such a tranquil location. My condolences to those who have lost someone and sympathies to all affected by the quake.

Here from the United States, what we can do is send money, any amount,
to the Italian Red Cross at this link: https://www.ammado.com/fundraiser/italy-eq/donate
to help with food, medicines, tents, dogs, whatever is needed.

I also made a contribution using PayPal directly through a genealogy society:

Circolo Calabrese is once again seeking donations that we can pass on to the Italian Red Cross. As before, we will match all donations that are received, dollar for dollar. Let us all do our part in assisting our friends and family from central Italy in their time of need.
To donate, please click the following link:
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?c ... 6DCQN3GQWW
Kindest regards,
Il Circolo Calabrese --
"The world's oldest and largest organization
devoted to the study and preservation of the
history, culture, language and genealogy of
the Calabria region of Italy."

For those of you thinking of the children: http://www.savethechildren.org/site/app ... 69&notoc=1

For those of you fluent in Italian, read the website from LA STAMPA, the newspaper, where donations can be sent( though I'm not sure about US dollars and Italian money):

http://www3.lastampa.it/specchio-dei-te ... tp/482751/

Thoughts and prayers help, but they won't provided what's needed now.
And, of course, there are many, many Facebook sites for relief efforts.

So many Italians have helped so many of us on the Forum. This is our chance to do something for them.

Noel

P.S. If the links don't work, I know our researching abilities will help you figure out how to access the sites!

Thanks, Noel. Your link took me to PayPal, my browser did not find the site itself. I examined your post and thought perhaps letters were transposed -- so typed in circolo calbrese instead. I got this site -

http://circolocalabrese.org/calabria-ge ... -index.asp

but I do not see any resources for taking up funds for the earthquake on it. Perhaps, as part of the Forum, this was discussed. Charity Navigator has a link anyone can use -

http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.c ... hgodVTgLBQ

directly to the Earthquake Relief. There are two rated organizations to give to - Global Giving or The National Italian American Foundation. You are right; it is both prayers and work that are needed.

Many thanks - Peonygirl
