Re: Treaty of Peace with Italy (1947) and Citizenship
As I know History of Istrian people your grandfather surely NEVER did renounced his Italian citizenship. Istrian people were very proud to be italian and they kept inside forever their italian soul. And the fact he run away from Istria for going in Milan renforce my idea: a) He left Fiume in the day...

It is right.
The church of Sant'Andrea is the elder church of the town (probably it was built around VI-VII century after Christ).

Re: Andreatta, Mattiuz families
I'm every day near the town of Ponte di Piave.
I'll see If I can Help.
But remember that Ponte di Piave was completely destroyed during WWI (even the church), so it's possibile that all the registers at that date have been lost

Re: Grado
I think is not possible: Grado was annexed to Italy after WWi, in 1918.
Before it was under the Austrian Empire.
So I think she must refer to a parish.
I see there is only parish, SDant'Eufemia, which number is 0431 80146.

Re: conegliano orphanage
Now it's a little clear: your mother probably moved from Pola in 1946 as refugee (it was italian territory given to Jugoslavia as conseuqences of WWII). The orphanege, they told me, do not exist any more or, better, has been transformed in a ospice for old people (Or something like that) If you go a...

Re: Italian military records
You have to ask the "foglio matricolare" to the Archivio di Stato of the province where your grandfather was born. Inside the "folgio matricolare" are reported all about the military life of a soldier, even the awards and the motivation about them.

Re: Italian Soldiers in WW1
As my knowledge, there war no italin soldier died in Russia in WWI.
There was battalion or regiment at all.
Only in 1919 a Regiment reach Russia for a short time.
It could be in WWII?
