Re: GedMatch to opt in or not?
Unless you are a criminal or have some criminals in your tree, don't opt out. Gedmatch is a valid genealogy research site, and your data is valuable.

Help with meaning of one word
This photo comes from a census, and we are curious what is the meaning of the word, above the two Sposo words. Does it refer to something about the marriage, or something else. Ammiegliata maybe.
Thanks

Re: DNA Testing
I would recommend FTDNA's Y test. and Ancestry's autosomal test. I would not waste my money on a mitochondrial DNA test. You can put your Y data, and Ancestry data into a third party database called Gedmatch. They are especially valuable since they have a chromosome browser, which shows locations on...

Re: DNA Testing
Good for you. I would suggest that you go to the Ellis Island site. They have all the ships lists of passengers on line now. I had go actually go to the national archives and find the ship passenger list with my grandparents on it. It took my wife and me all day to find them.

Re: DNA Testing
I recently attended the Roots Tech conference and other than an outstanding Italian Genealogy class, i focused my time mostly on the DNA classes. I came back with a lot of excitement in genereal, and little hope for me. I have done a Y test with Family Tree DNA. I even met with the president of the ...

Re: DNA Testing
I just heard that Ancestry DNA has stopped all DNA work. They also bought a database from another source and were not sharing it. FTDNA is still the best overall. I'm getting lots of matches, but none very interesting yet, but there are not a lot of Italians in there. My friend is going back to my a...

Re: DNA Testing
If you are a female, and have a brother, you can get his DNA test. If you have no living male relatives, like me, then we are stuck for now. I have been getting hits from my own Y DNA test, but nothing useful. I think Family Tree DNA is the better, because they have an italian surname project, as we...
