Yes that means when she received benefits from Social sec. It was from a deceased spouse. That's her husbands Ssn#

If the claim # ends with the letter A it is hers if it ends in another letter it is probably a spouse such as a d or a w?

It's not easy to do research in Italian records on line. Go to your nearest family History Center http://www.familysearch.org (click on Library) and order and view the films. Unfortunately for that are they are a bit of a mess and mixed up with other towns around. Translations and tips can be found...

From the 1900 census you know her year of birth you can try requesting her original social security application from them under the foia rules and they will send you a copy this will tell you her place of birth and her parents names. Not sure if you have tried this but it may help??

That I'm not sure usually they would just have a birth certificat of a us citizen born abroad. From what I know.
