Hey all, just wanted to thank everyone again, especially you VJ, for helping me with my family tree...I began this chat with you guys about a week ago now, and I had only 191 people in my family tree...Thanks to all of you, I now have 268!!!

WOO HOO!!!!

I still hope to go back further, and I think I may have found a distant living relative in Italy, so wish me luck on getting a hold of him....

Any advice on what to say to some one who you have never met, never knew of until recently, and who only speaks Italian, but is rumored to have a complete family tree that goes back to the first century A.D.?

Thanks again everyone...

Ok, so I have been doing some more digging, but I still am lacking in many areas...Anyone still up for some help?

My great grandfather Frank D. Zangari, the US Navy Bandmaster, formerly stationed in Portsmouth, NH, had died in Norfolk, VA, of pneumonia in 1922, but he was transported back to Portsmouth, NH, to be buried. Anyway to find out which cemetery it is that he is buried in? Anyway to find out how they transported him from one place to the other, and who was there to receive him, if anyone?

Is there any way to find out some of this information?

Also, I have been trying to find out more about Frank's father, Nicola (Nicholas) Zangari and his mother Concetta Monteleone. Where did they die, what were their dates of death? I think they were either living in New York City, NY, or Portsmouth, NH, but I really do not know where are they buried at or anything about them.

Did they have brothers and sisters? Who were their parents? I have no idea about any of this info...If I can find info that I am looking for about them, then I think I will surpass this block that I am running into about going back further...

I have been trying the newspaper that some one on here had suggested to me (Seacoast Online) for NH, but it is not a very user friendly site.

I have found a few records stored about my great grandfather in one of the New Hampshire college's library special collections area though, and am waiting to receive that so that I can see if it will provide more information about him.

Anyways, as of this writing I now have 380 people in my (twisted and gnarled) family tree, and I really do hope that I am able to go back further than what I have.

Any suggestions? I have been to the LDS Family History Center in Mesa, AZ, quite a bit recently, but the people there seem unable to help me very much...I showed them this website though, and they all but fell out of their chairs with excitement that some one had shown them a new resource....lol...

Speaking of resources, does any one know of a good resource for finding family records in Calabria Italy? That might help my search quite a bit...

As always any and all help is much appreciated...

OMG VJ!!! THANK YOU AGAIN SO MUCH!!!

I did not know the name of the cemetery where my great greandfather and great grandmother were buried, nor did I have those clippings, although I have been looking on photobucket and footnote when I am at the LDS FHC...

I talked to the Portsmouth, NH Naval Center Public Relations Officer today, and he is going to take some photos of the monument that is dedicated to my great grandfather and he is going to send them to me. Also, I had found that the University of New Hampshire has a Special Collections centre that has pictures of my great grandfather with the US Naval Band.

I have found out more, and hope to be able to find the ties that bind my branch of the Zangari family to all the other branches once and for all...

Thank you all once again so much for all the help you have provided to me and my family....

Sincerely,

Vincint Zangari

I just got an email from a possible distant relative...it has family members going back to 1732!

Now, I just need to find a way to authenticate what I have received and find it's incorporation into my family tree....

Any volunteers to help? lol

Ok, so there is this one person in it who could possibly be my great great grandfather, Nicola...the name in the other family tree is Francesco Nicola, and the date of birth that I have is approximate on both...the one that I have in my family tree is 1852...the alternate tree lists the date as 1858...whether or not it is the same place of birth, I don't yet know. However, I plan to do some more research about it and see where it leads me...

Thanks to everyone who has helped me thus far, I would not be this far into my tree with out all the help that I have received from you.

Sincerely,

Vincint Zangari

Can anyone tell me a little more about the records kept in Brognaturo, Cantanzaro, Calabria, Italy? Would they by chance be a repository for their area of Cantanzaro? If so, I think I may have found more info on my family tree...

The reason why I ask is because Brognaturo is only about 8 miles from Torre, which is where my family came from...

Thanks for any and all replies...

Wow I was so amazed to come across this because Dominic "Mickey" Zangari is my grandfather! He lives here in Kittery, Maine at 29 stevenson Road. He is happily married to Maxine Zangari. They have two beautiful daughters that they adopted. Michelle Ann Appleby and Melissa Sampson. Michelle (my mother) has 4 children (3 living 1 deceased) Melissa (my aunt) has two children. I am glad to answer any questions you might have about my family and yours!

WOW!!! Hi Stephanie!!!

I think the last time that I heard about you and your side of the family was about 10 years ago....I was in my mid twenties back then....

I used to live in Haverhill, MA, and your grandfather Mickey was my Nanu's cousin, but they were like brothers, from what I understand. Your grandfather also had a brother named Nicky, if I remember correctly, who had died a long time ago in one of the wars.

Your grandfather is now in his 80's or 90's, if memory serves, and had an article done on him in the local newspaper back in (I think) 2005 or 2006.

Your grandmother, Maxine, I have some stuff on her side of the family tree as well.

I hope to hear from you soon Stephanie, as I have also just found a 3rd cousin of mine from my father's mother's side of the family tree who is also into genealogy and who has my Nana's side of the family tree going back to the 1600's.

I am going to be incorporating all that info and then some into my family tree. If you are interested in communicating more about the Zangari family, that would be awesome...

Please private message me, and I will give you my personal email address so that we can share the family tree info.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Couldn't resist...I actually do work with a guy names Apollo now...hehehe...isn't irony ironic?

Just a quick question about this thread (sorry that this thread is a bit old), could anyone tell me what the name of the hospital was where my great grandfather (Francesco Domenico Zangari) died? He was the one who died on 22 or 23 FEB 1922.

Thanks to any and all who can help...
