Searching Carlo Visca / Maria Porta - Vaglio Serra, Allesand

Hi everyone, I am beginning to research the family of my grandmother, Carolina Visca who came to America in 1913. I have the Ellis Island ship manifest. On the manifest, it names her father, Carlo Visca. She was born in Vaglio Serra (which is on the manifest as provincia d\' Alles.) in 1896. Her mother I am told is Maria Porta. If anyone has any information on this family, or can offer research advice for this area, please reply or email me at <a href="mailto:mediocrates@nc.rr.com" target="_new">mediocrates@nc.rr.com</a>. I looked in the LDS library for Civil Registry in this area, but Vaglio Serra is not listed. I intent to research records for Vinchio, which is 4km away on the map I have seen. Does this seem reasonable? There also seem to be ties to Nizza Monferrato, as she stayed there on a visit back after World War II. Any help at all would be appreciated, as well as any links to information about the region, culture, music, food or anything at all. Thanks! Dave Britt

The Comune is Vaglio Serra, Postale code 14040, in the province of Asti is located in the Piemonte region. The mayor is Mr. Pietro Terraris and you may request records from the Ufficio di Stato Civile there, in Italian in the form of a letter which can be obtained from the www.italianancestry.com website in part 3. There are 10 Porta and 2 Visca surnames in the Val D\'aosta region. Go to www.paginebianche.it and insert surnames in the first line and AO in the third line and click cerca. This will bring up their full names,addresses and telephone numbers should you wish to write these persons who may be related to you. You can write in english in simple sentences if you wish. Peter
