Can not find record of relatives in Italy

Postby dhouser » 10 Oct 2002, 02:29

I am very new to this, so there is probably something very easy that I could do, but, I have no idea what that is. I am looking for records of my great-great grandparents Antonio and Carmina Saravo/Sarao. My Great Uncle\'s obit says he was born in Marzano Appio, Caserta, Italy. I know that they had one child, Lina, in Italy, moved to Rhode Island, had a boy (my great grandfather), Gennaro, then moved back to Italy and had my uncle, Angelo (who goes by the last name of Sarao). I found an online record of Gennaro\'s birth, but can not find a written copy. All the engines I have search say there is no such surname (either one). Where do I go from here?
thanks so much!
Dawn =)

Can not find record of relatives in Italy

You can do several things: You can check the Ellis Isalnd website at WWW.ellisislandrecords.org. Seach for the surname you are looking for and see if anything comes up. If so, you can verify the town that your relatives were born. Then you can order microfilms for that town through the LDS church. Go to www. familysearch.org to see if such films exist, and to find an LDS library near you. If films exist, you can find birth, death,marriage records for that town. Most range from 1809 to about 1900.

Good luck!

[ This message was edited by: Lauren on 22-10-2002 10:29 ]

write to the town of origin and request a birth record from the Ufficio di Stato Civile giving the full name you have and date of birth, enclose a self addressed envelope and $5.00 for stamps and that can satisfy the need for a surname record. Peter
