FWIW, I just created a new account, signed onto it, and posted this message.

Jim (Oilman) tried setting up a new account. He says,

When I tried to set up oilman19-test, it asked me to enable cookies in order to post on this site. I am not aware that I have ever enabled or disabled cookies on my computer. Plus, I have had the same problem today on 3 different computers.

Interesting. I wonder if there is a Windows or antivirus update out there that is screwing some people up.

Jim says three different computers with different operating systems, different anti-virus.

I have notified Edmondo of the problem, as moderators we have access to some site functioning, but not all, and this is one of those "not all" :?

In the meantime, if you could clear your cookies, cache, and browsing history, then restart your computer. If this does not work, Edmondo will address the problem just as soon as he receives the email.

Interestingly enough, I am using my wife's Notebook at the moment and having the same problem as Jim and Tessa, but only (so far) with Internet Explorer. Firefox works normally...

On my own PC, both IE and Firefox were fine all day.

I use firefox as well, can't stand IE.

At the moment, on my wife's Notebook, I can use the site normally with Firefox.

With IE (v8.0.6001.18882), I am having the same problem already reported by Oilman and Tessa.

I'll go back downstairs shortly and check my desktop PC - which was working all day with both IE and Firefox.

[edit]

Forgot to mention, Oilman was not able to get in using Firefox...

Very odd - downstairs desktop PC is still working with IE (v8.0.7600.16385). I even logged out and back in to be certain. Different IE build, as you can see. Also, this PC is Windows 7/64; the Notebook is Vista/64.

Carmine,
You found the solution. I don't know how or why the address in my browser would not work.
Sooo happy to be back.

As noted in the other thread I started, the problem was that Jim (also Tessa and who knows who else...) was logging onto "italiangenealogy.com" instead of "italiangenealogy.tardio.com"

Carmine,

THANKS so very, very much for your interest and efforts! As I read your posts, then the post from Jim, I looked up and saw the URL was not what I usually have for IG... I guess the browser was routing me to italiangenealogy.com instead of italiangenealogy.tardio.com!
Not sure why, but as Jim says " Soooo happy to be back!"

Thanks to Livio who was generous enough to be my "go-between" and to Valarie and Lee...and anyone else who helped...you all the best!

Great job John!! I'll let Edmondo know it was something simple rather than a site problem.

We recently made some changes to overcome those pain in the "u know what" spammers!!

Actually, after discussing further with Jim (Oilman), I realize that it probably is a site problem. It seems that in the past, "italiangenealogy.com" would automatically redirect to the real site url, "italiangenealogy.tardio.com" and that this redirection is no longer functioning. So, those of us that were always using the tardio url were okay and those that were not (Jim, Tessa, and who knows how many others) could not access the site.

One of those "recent changes" may be at fault.

Main URL from today should be www.italiangenealogy.com which will not redirect to italiangenealogy.tardio.com anymore.

italiangenealogy.tardio.com will still work but is not advised to use.
