It is unlikely they would be willing to look at the S.S. Death index to verify a death. I think that would be too simple.
I agree, Carmine. They will probably expect a death certificate from CA.

Forgot about that. I did include a copy of the death record with my requests along with the personal identification.

I think the most difficult record request was for my brother who died at the age of 41. They were really tough and very hesitant to issue a copy of his birth record since his death had been only since 1976.

I guess the watchword would be just be patient. The process won't be short.
