Going to Avellino on Sunday Oct 10

My wife and I will be in Italy for our 10th wedding anniversary, and one of our stops will be the town of Avellino. We plan on attending mass at the Cathedral. I have researched my family name and have sent letters to the 75 Pellecchia's listed in the Italian white pages. O fthe one who have responded none say that they are related. I am hoping that when I go the the town to attend mass I may meet someone who may know my family. Just thought I would throw this out there if anyone has any thoughts. I have heard from several people who say they have gone to there ancestors birthplace and have found family just by walking around, especially in the smaller towns. Anyway I am looking forward to just seeing the birthplace of my ancestors and hopefully finding some family.

I'm pretty sure that this can happen in small towns or villages but Avellino is a town with 57.000 inhabitants....

Have your requested Carmine birth act to the Comune of Avellino? Just to see in which area of the city his family was living... Usually on birth acts you can find also the Baptism annotation with the name of the church where the baby was baptized...

You may try to request also Amerigo Pellecchia's birth act... on the Birth act you'll see the address of the house where the baby was born, and the Baptism annotation too with the name of the church...

Thank you LaBud and Pink for your responses. This web site has been fantastic in helping me with my research. Pink67, the info you posted is correct(however the spelling of the last name and some first names are wrong) I have found already. Unfortunately we will be there on a Sunday so I am sure City Hall will be closed, but I will try and contact them either before I go or when I return home. I especially appreciate the link for form letters to request info from the Anagrafe. Wish me luck and many thanks for the advice.

did you go to italy? also, is what pink67 listed your family, because it's mine! anna was my aunt annne, nicholas was my uncle nick, vincent was my uncle jimmy, americo was my uncle mo, edward was my father, fanny was my aunt fay (all Pellecchia's) carmine was my grandfather, but i don't remember him. i have my father's birth cirtificate to prove this. i am darren pellecchia.
