Dercole Dilemma

I'm trying to research my great-great-grandparents. My great-great-grandfather was Andrew (Andrea) Dercole married to Rose, father was Guiseppe Dercole mother was Christina Collachi. My grandmother always said that her mother's family was from Abruzzo, Italy. Andrew was born in Italy in about 1869 according to his death record and came to the states in abt 1880 according to the 1920 census. I know he was in Hazelton, PA in 1907 since my great-great-uncle Carmine Torriano came here and was going to stay with him. According to the census records all of Andrew's kids were born in PA but there's a Naturalization Record for my great-grandmother Christine, so I don't know what to make of this. I can't find any trace of them before the 1920 census with the exception of my great grandparent's marriage license from 1912. There are no birth records for any of the seven kids or any record of Andrew's wife other than on his death record. I've hit a brick wall. Help! In the records they've gone by everything from Darks, to Dark, Darko, Dercole, Dercoli, Dercola, and D'Ercola. So to recap.

Christina married at Michele Torriano; Michele( Michael) I believe that was born in Bojano( also spelled Boiano) currently in Isernia province, Molise region; in the past Bojano was in Campobasso province, Molise; because it was only Campobasso as capital of Molise; but Molise region until 1960s was part of Abruzzo; in effects the old full name of this 2regions( but only 1 in the past) was Abruzzo e Molise.... also D'Ercole is a surname present in Bojano... you think that Torriano and the D'Ercole
coming from same place? It is possible?

You're amazing suanj! To answer your question "you think that Torriano and the D'Ercole coming from same place? It is possible?" YES! Michael and Christine were cousins. Christine was told that she had to marry a cousin. I found Ellis Island records for Michael, Michele, Torriano in 1903 and again in 1909. In 1903 he came over with Antonia Torriano, I'm assuming his sister? Then in 1909 he came alone. His brother Carmine Torriano came in 1907 and was going to meet his uncle Andrea (Andrew) D'Ercola and then in 1909 their brother Bartolomea Torriano came here to meet Michael in Greensburg, PA. Then I lose track of everyone until the 1920 census, with the exception of Christine and Michael's marriage. I can tell you who the kids married, I did know about Joseph's son he died in WWII, that's my Uncle John's brother.

I don't know if that helps. I'm still trying to figure out how Christine and Michael were related. Michael's mother's name was Filomena Chiovitti. I found a manifest with a bunch of Chiovittis coming here in 1909. One is a Michael Chiovitti who is the brother in law to a Guiseppe Troiani? I can't read the name well. And it says that Guiseppe's wife Filomena is aboard the Gregorio but I can't find a manifest for it. Do you think this could be Michael's Mother and Father? And her family? Or am I going too far out on a limb?

Hi, Michele Chiavitti going in Toronto, Canada, joining at cousin Liberato Chiavitti... Giuseppe Troiani seeming brother in law of Michele Chiavitti, but maybe the surname is Troiani and not Torriano... the surnames are different....

My name is Debbie and my grandmother on my father's side is Anna Rigitano. I have been trying to trace the Dercole side of my family ancestry and, like you, have been having difficulties! You and I are related down the line as cousins.

Did you happen to find any info on Rose Dercole? Did she die in PA and is buried there? Were Rose and Andrea already married when they arrived from Italy?

I would appreciate any info you may uncover. My dad is the only surviving child of Anna and Frank Rigitano and he knows very little about his family.
