italiami wrote:I just received my FIRST requested document today!!!!! It was from the Archdiocese of Boston and they enclosed a copy of the Register entry from the church book. Lo, and behold, the record format is in Latin and the pertinent info on grandparents in Italian.
I can understand some but others, not. I gather that Filium is asking for the parents names. Written next to Filium for my grandfather, is hand-written -" Ignoti et Ignotae " What does that mean? I was told by my dad that my grandfather was abandoned as an infant. Do you think this word means (heaven-forbid), "unknown"? Would that mean my research ends there as far as researching his parents? If an infant is abandoned, where would he be placed and where would I begin to search. I know the birthdate but a guesstimate on the year. He was born in Benevento and the church record shows: Baptizatum in (handwriting is hard to decipher): Parr or Garr Ecle. S. Donati. Ditae (?)or Ritae and then the word terrae.
Thanks for any help or direction.

For an infant abandoned you can request birth act in Common equally..not have relatives name, but are an private folder for the child abandoned.. this private folder are top secret, I think are necessary italian judge's action ( on your legal request )for to read and know the details on birth your ancestor.. in this folder are the all info on child abandoned found: who has found it, in which place, as she was dressed, if was some letter with to the child etc.. regards, suanj
