GGrandmother was said to have been adopted... only maiden name listed for her is Janie Saludie Cheek, B:1866 Jefferson County, Alabama, D:1957 Mobile, Alabama.... married to Charles William Marshman, B:1864 Georgia D:1933 Alabama and both of them have been untraceable other than this information. Most of the Cheeks listed in the southern states are black or mulatto but there is no physical evidence from GGM forward that would suggest mulatto heritage.

Look at bottom of this 1930 census and top of second page. Janie and "P" (really "CW") Marshman are living with - I don't know - their daughter and her husband and children?

Notice by the way that in all three censuses posted above, Janie reports being born in Georgia and Charles was born in Alabama.

This is the opposite of the info in your original post.

This one is a bit of a curiosity; I wonder if it could be your Janie? (even though she says she was born in Mississippi)

She is listed as a boarder in the household.

Thank you so much... Most of this identified and confirmed (with misspellings). Just cannot find anything OTHER than the Janie Creek who was a 'boarder, age 16'. Have no idea if Janie was born out of wedlock and or just put out for adoption... and whether or not CREEK was her father's surname or mother's maiden name.
