I sm searching for the place in Italy where a Louis Manguso and his wife Teresa comes from. I located them listed in the 1930 Federal Census in Peublo, Colorado.

so the surname spelling could be Mancuso.. maybe.. I found that in Colorado the Manguso/i or Mancuso/i coming from Avigliano(Potenza province)

I believe that I found the marriage of LUIGI MANCUSO/I ( I believe right spelling MANCUSI changed in Manguso in USA)

frankly I am a bit positive that Luigi Mancusi was born in Avigliano or surrounding place; in 1877 Avigliano birth I no found the record; and lacking 1875 and 1876 birth years...

I am amazed at all of your research.
Thank you so very miuch. I worked on this until 3:00 AM. then did the post. I just jot up and yor took it 10 steps further.

The changes of the surname spelling is interesting. Certainally you would know.
However, I did find the Manguso Surname in my searches, at the Ellis Island.

I don't understand this part of the posting?

WHAT DID THE MARRIAGE RECORD SAY FOR THE PARENTS OF lUIGI or Teresa?

They must have gotten married, just before leaving Italy for the USA, because on one of the Census records, it states their ages when married. I think I remember it was 21 & 22.

What records did you review in Southern Italy and where did you find them?

On Ancestry, I found this brder crossing from Canada,( 21 July 1906) that has Potenza, Baselicata, Italy

Luigi Mancuso/i
and
Teresa Sarlo/i married in Kings, NY on 29th May 1898 and moved in Colorado where the first daughter was born... I am pretty sure that the marriage record is abt right Luigi;

I believe that Luigi and Teresa coming from Potenza province( my suggestion is that the birthplaces are Avigliano and Abriola, but just a my suggestion)..
as many italian surnames in USA, they are mispelled on US records... as a well many data on the censuses are no rights.... especially the ages...

I believe that what I found is ok; on OneWorldTree the Luigi birthplace is wrote Potenza( some commune in Potenza province); and the surname is wrote Mancuso ( No Manguso)... as a well for Teresa: Sarlo maiden name...

as I said some Mancuso/Manguso in Colorado coming from Avigliano; in Avigliano exist just Mancusi... and in Potenza province Sarli ... that by my search...

I believe that Luigi came in USA around 1897... and Teresa abt same year...

If you look at the old hand writting on the census record, Brothers is a name that came from Italy and is spelled different on the record.

His name Chester is actually Cherteo Brothina
Someone can verify thins that isused to names in that area of Italy.

I have not parent's names of Luigi and Teresa...

for the births I searched in this database

Potenza, Basilicata, Italy, Civil Registration Records, 1861-1938
by ancestry.com
especially, Avigliano births ( but can be born in some other Commune in Potenza province...), but no luck abt Luigi born on 30 nov oct 1877; and lacking 1876 and 1875 birth registries...

to find the marriage act is very important, because we can know the parent's names; I found it the record by One Step:

but in full marriage act the parent's names must be ....
