Born overseas and need to know where to authenticate BC

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Born overseas and need to know where to authenticate BC

Postby lisahickey » 27 Feb 2012, 19:23

We are in the process of applying for citizenship through descent and I was born in Morocco (US citizen at birth), so the State Department is the issuer of my birth certificate - they can also apostille it for me, but I'm not sure where to get it authenticated. We are applying in NY - do I get it done in DC since that's where State Dept is? Has anyone run into this before?

Thanks in advance!

An update - the NYC consulate says that the embassy in DC has jurisdiction over my BC to authenticate, in case anyone else has a similar issue.
