I cant find my grandfathers name on passenger list!!

My grandfather Luigi Rossi entered the US through Ellis Island on June 21, 1907 from Naples. His hometown was Reggio, Calabra. I have his letter of intent dated 1915. He was born 1889 and was on the ship De Re Italia. I have looked over and over for his name listed on the manifest and it appears nowhere. I checked alternate spellings, etc and nothing. How can this happen? I am trying to get as much information as I can. I never met the man, but would love to know more about him. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Joe, if you have collected all of your US records, you can order microfilms for Cordeto at your local Family History Center. They will be civil records written in Italian. You would have to view them at the Center. We recommend doing all of your US research first. If your grandfather had family here in the US you will want to know everything about them before you dive into Italian records. I would find all of your census records and ship manifests if you haven't found them already. Family given names tend to repeat in a community it would be helpful to know if you are dealing with a direct relative or a 'cousin'
