Family in Friuli-Venezia Giulia

My Great-Grandfather, Anton, came to America in 1913 from Trovo ob Soci, Slovenia (which is right over the mountains from Goricia, Friuli). Our surname, Fon, is unique even in Slovenia, and through Ellis Island and family land transfer records, I noticed that numerous family members had Italian names like Giuseppe, Francesco, ect and were located across the mountains in Friuli.

So, basically I'd like to search for records of any Fons from Goricia, Friuli. Can someone point me in any direction as where to begin? Through Archivio di Stato di Gorizia I found record of many Fons being born in Goricia in the early 1900s, including a few records like the following, which is a record of birth for a child with Anton Fon being listed as the father.

However, there are numerous children being named Anton Fon in the records as well, it seems common for the time, so I have no way of knowing if the Father stated is my Great-Grandfather (B. 1885 or so) or not.

If anyone could suggest where I go from here it would be greatly appreciated.

You're right, identifying a family record in Gorizia (GO) that would be connected to your great grandfather Anton would be nearly impossible without more information: exact birth dates, parent's names, possible siblings, etc.

Have you found all of your US records? Often they contain valuable information and clues that can help in the search for records in other countries.

Vj, thank you so much for your reply and research. That Anton Fon is not my great-grandfather, though I do believe they lived in the same city at the same time once (ha!). Here's the tricky thing; Anton was also known as Franz and Frank.

Franz/Anton's father is listed as Johan(Ivann) in his Ellis Island file, and he's listed as having a brother Andrew(Andrea) still living back home in his obituary.

Is this is your great grandmother's sister?

No I have not. Until recently, I was unaware that they had any due to their not being in the SSDI. Just the other day someone told me that the SSDI doesn't contain many pre-1960 Deaths. I intend to order my great-grandmother's (Roza Bergine/Berginc) and great-grandfather's (Frank Fon) soon.

Angeline is in my family tree, but as Angeline Bergine; my great-grandmother's sister. After his wife Roza died in 1940, my great-grandfather married her sister, the old dog.
