Depends what year you are looking for. After 1809 to 1860 records are on microfilm with www.familysearch.org. After 1860 you write to the town. Before 1809 you have to deal with the local parish church.

I have an LDS center near here so I will visit them shortly.

I have the U.S. info on Alfansina and Alberto (immigration dates, census records, etc.)

My concern was documentation. Do I go through the town they were born in or is their some regional authority? Is it the church or some secular record system I need to access in Italy?

Records I'd like to gather (in parentheses):

Alfansina Barone (birth certificate), born est. 1894 in Circello, daughter of Francesco Barone (birth/marriage/death) and Rosina Gigante(birth/marriage/death.)

Alberto DeSimone (birth certificate), born September 14, 1887 in Naples (probably Circello) arrived in U.S. Jan. 25, 1905, son of Maddalena D'Agostino (birth/marriage/death)and Fortunato DeSimone (birth/marriage/death.)
