They got on the boat, now what?

I\'ve dabbled in finding my own family here in the states, but now am trying to help a friend search out his ancestors. We hit Italy fast, but now I\'m not sure where to look for information on the other side of the water. I\'ve found what is likely to be his grandfather thru ellisisland.org. I believe his grandfather, Michele Stumpo, arrived to E.I. on Feb 08, 1912 on the Taormina and had previously resided in Rogliano, Cosenza. I believe his date of birth is Feb 9, 1894. Where would I start looking for more information such as parents, siblings, etc? <IMG SRC="images/forum/icons/icon_confused.gif">

You would request brith records, marriage records death records etc. as well as family certificates of his father whgich would give you all the members of his immediate family. I presume Rogliano is the town of origin since you have already checked the ellisisland records just submiut a arequest in Italian (go to www.italianancestry.com part 3) with full name and datye or year of birth in town of origin. enclose self addressed envelope and $5.00 or Euro for stamps since service is free. Address is Ufficio di Stato Civile, Comune di Rogliano (postal code?), Province of Cosenza, Calabria Italy. Also go to www.paginebianche.it for current residents bearing same surname for possible relatives. line 1 surname, line 3 town, click CERCA. Peter
