DE MEUR

Postby Lindadoh » 08 Feb 2005, 09:13

I am trying to trace my great-great-grandfather Theodore Arthur De Meur. He was born in Naples around 1837 - he married in Australia in 1859 - not sure how he came to Australia.

His father was Clement Louis De Meur and married Elizabeth Bassano.

This is really all the information I have - if anyone has any information on the De Meur family I would love to hear.

De Meur is not italian surname; Bassano yes; in Naples are DE MAURO surname, is possible that the De Meur surname was De Mauro ?

Thanks you for your reply...my feeling is that De Meur is a French name.
Clement De Meur must have travelled to Italy from France, met Elizabeth Bassano and married in Naples where my ggf was born. I will have to trace the Bassano family in Italy and De Meur in France, although not having a lot of luck with De Meur
