Thanks for the links. I will take a look and work on finding that elusive 1900 Census!
EDIT TO ADD:
Found Carmelo at the 865 Greenmount Ave, Baltimore, address in the 1900 Census
It would appear that Carmelo may have been Luigi's brother-in-law, perhaps married to his sister? Caterina? [thinking out loud] His surname is listed as MESSINA -
Carmelo (and Joseph Ridolfo)[both barbers] are living at that address, but there is no sign of Luigi and family...
