surname-Cortucci

I have been looking for my G grandmother \'s surname,anyone researching it. Her husband was Pietro Stropoli. Their son was Andrea Stropolo,who married a Giacoma Bilella in Villafranca, Agrigento Sicily in 1900. Andrea Stropoli came to America in 1903. Giacoma Bilella in 1906. I would like to know where the name Cortucci orginated from. I can not find but a few in America, none in Sicily. Thanks for the reply Peter <IMG SRC="images/forum/icons/icon_smile.gif">

There are currently 34 persons in Italt with the surname Cortucci. 75% or 25 persons are located in the province of Ancona in the Marche region which is a very good indication that the surname originated in that province. The Italian dictionary has no lsiting for Cortucci but that is consistent with my findings since it is a local surname and probably derived from Corte but that is not a certainty. If you go to www.paginebianche.it and locate the surname in Ancona you will see their naems and addresses. Peter
