Scotto di Santolo from Monte di Procida

Her mother was Anna Regina Remauro and her father was Antonio Scotto di Santolo. I am interested in tracing her father\'s ancestry in that I was told that the family originated in Scotland and came to Italy through the blood of king Charles. I am trying to ascertain if it is Charles d\'Anjou, or Charles Stuart or neither and just a family myth. I am composing a diary for my children.

Interestingly enough, I married Robert Remauro who is my fourth cousin.

Scotto di Santolo from Monte di Procida

Postby Leticia » 16 Dec 2002, 04:27

I am stuck with the \'di Santolo since it seems that it was habit for the Scotto\'s to intermarry and when the woman had property (which my great great great grandmother did) they would add her family name to the name Scotto thereby making a new surname ie: Scotto di Santolo. Right now I am working to find the origination of the name Scotto in Italian culture. I know it has origins in both England and Italy. Any guess where or when it became a surname in Italy and through whom or where I might look to find the answer?

Scotto is the basic surname while scotti, scuotto, scoto and Scoti are variations. Scotto and Scotti are the most common surnames and concentrated in the northwest of Italy and in the Campania region where it is known as Scuoto. Scotto and Scoto were known as far back as the middle ages as the inhabitants not only of scotland but also ireland. Peter
