We will need to know more about your grandfather to be able to help.

If you can answer these questions it will help.

Birth date or approx year of birth?
birth place?
Parent namesif known?
siblings?
Who he married? and when & where?
Where they lived?
Children? Dates of their births?

Waiting for reply........

Do you want to trace your family history.......or are you asking for the meaning of the name?

I was always told by my family on the Troia side that we were descended from the Greeks of Troy, hence Troy intalianated became Troi. And since we all know that every Italian name ends in an a or o, Troia sounded better.

The alternative is that someone or maybe more in the family, were the kind of people that resembled female sows, also named troia in Italian. They must have been gluttons, whores or just liked to roll in sh_t to garner that label... ha ha ha.

Good luck with your search... what was your grandfather's first name? Mine was Attilio Troia.
