Confusing=== In Italian the letter "J" is called "I lungo" and when an Italian tells my name is, as written, "J..." and it is pronounced "I", it will be written "I xxx"
Not to start with "Y" = what the heck it was? Y grieca???
Think about the "Juventus" soccer team = one says Iuventus!!!
OK , now they are is "serie B"!
And, not to mention when someone says at Ellis I. , tells my name is as in "E xxx" the fellow there will write "I xx..." and there it goes!!!!
Or, my name is "Ida", common old Calabrese name, they will write "Aida".
When in doubt I have learned to pronounce names in English, and figure out how to spell in Italian ( at Ellis!) That's the way I am surviving various Calabrese dialects., and old Mss.
However, I may go nuts at the end... Please, be patient with me!
