Who can I contact in Italy?

Postby wernd1988 » 31 Jan 2003, 20:27

Thanks for the previous help in the forum. I do know the exact spelling of my Grandfather, his exact birthdate. Thanks to you in the forum I also know there are still 162 DeLucia\'s still in Maddaloni. With this information is there a person or organization I can contact in the Maddaloni area or in Maddaloni itself? He was born December 10, 1892 in Maddaloni. I thought perhaps it could be easier than going to the Mormon Church and going through microfilm.

DP

You can write for documents such as birth, marriage or death recordsand state of the family certificate to the town of origin. There are no organziations that I am aware of just government municipal offices. Sorry Peter

One more bit of help. Can you tell me how to address it to the town from the US. I will try to write in my best Italian, but am unsure who to address it to and how.

Peter, so far I have been able to do all you suggested. The site with the form letter suggests sending an \"unstamped\" self addressed envelope, and you suggest $5.00 in Postal Coupons. I just would like to confirm what Postal Coupons are? Are they stamps?

DP

They sell cupons in Post Offices. I personally never used them and just put $5.00 in an envelope and cross my fingers..its expedites when it works and self addressed envelope also makes it easy for whoever and shows motivation. It doesn\'t pay to send an international bank check in Euros and they cannot exchange money orderrs or personal checks as I have beeen advise Consequently its cash, bank checks or cupons. The service is actually free but mailed requests, p[articularly from overseas is low on the priority list for local municipal archive offices who must take care of walk-ins fcirst. Peter
