Information on Cavaliere, Favina or Pozzo

My father was born in 1905 I believe in Fogia Italy, His father was Leonardo Cavaliere but he was adopted by Luigia Favina. On his Social Security record here in America it says his name at birth was Potito Pozzo. I am trying to find out what ever i can about my Dad. He died in 1975. There are 790 Pozzo surnames in Italy and there are just two Pozzo surnamed persons in the Puglia region and in the Lecce province. There are no Pozzo surnames in Foggia. Since you know when your father came to the USA I surmise you ovtained that info from the ellis island records correct? Then that would have his year of birth and pplace of origin which should be foggia (or is his town of adoption in the province of Foggia???) Please re-examine his entry data and let me know and specifically if you know anything about the adoption? Was he adopted by his adoptive parents in foggia or the province of Foggia.....just what you know. Peter

Was Leonardo Cavaliere his biological father? and is Luigia Favina married to Leonardo? IUts a biut unclear and so if you would just sit down and spell it out in sequential order I might understand better. Peter

I will try to explain as best as I could. My dad never really spoke to us about his family. After his death, I tried to get some information about him and started to find out about his adoption. I sent for his application for his social security and that is where I found out that his birth name was Potito Pozzo. His dad\'s name was Leonardo Cavaliere and his mother\'s name was Luigia Favina. I don\'t know if they were married. My dad came to America with his Uncle Joe Favina, but I can\'t find anything with the Ellis Island site on his arrival under any of these names. My sister doesn\'t seem too interested, but I really would like to know more and don\'t know how to go about it. My dad only said that he was from Foggia and never mentioned anything else. What other information do you need, as you can see I don\'t have to much to go on.

There are no Favina in Foggia or the province and there are 145 Cavaliere in the province of Foggia and 72 of them are in the city of Foggia. It may be best to file form 81 passenger arrrival forms for all three. Go to www.genealogylookups.com/narchives.htm for the forms. You may get information that will assist you since they may have arrived at Phiuladelphia or Boston or Baltimore. Peter
