Birth & Baptism Records

I need to get a certified copy of my husband\'s grandfather birth & baptism records he was born in Sicily town of Sciacca on Mar 17, 1875, I have faxed a letter (8/30/02) to the \"Stato Civile - Comune di Sciacca\" requesting \"Estratti Dagli Atti di Nascita\" but I cannot get a verbal confirmation yet. Could you shed some light on how long I should wait. Does anyone know what is the fastest way to obtain these records? Also how can I get copies of same records for someone that was born and married around the same period but in the town of Messina. The family entered the USA (New York) May 7,1909 (after the Messina earthquake). Did these records survived? I thank anyone that can assist me with these matters.

I am a volunteer for Italian people and their genealogy and I never recommend anyone but there is a great gal out of Salt Lake CVitynamed Kathy Kirkpatrick who is a professional researcher and who goes to Sicily and souther Italy doing research for people every so often. I don\'t know who what or how much but you can contact her at www.gentracer.com/onsite.html and she is leaving and coming back in November. www.gentracer.com/nexttrip.html. She may resolve your problem for you. She is an ethical and honest woman. If not then why don\'t you just call the ufficio in Sciacca and ask them for help..maybe a telephone call might spur them on.
