Meaning of name Mortellaro?

Hello, My Fiance\'s last name is Mortellaro, and he\'s always wanted to know what it means, but never found out...and I was thinking about making him something for V-day with the meaning on it, but I can\'t find any information anywhere...not to mention if it\'s going to be my last name, it\'s good to know. Does anyone know how I could find this or know this information? Thanks very much! Erica

There is no listing for the surname Mortellara in the Italian surname directory which indicates that it is local in origin. The Italian word dictionary has a word ...and this is mere speculation on my part.. MortellaBilberry a large leafed variety of the common myrtle plant. The name indicates that any working with myrtle would be Mortellaro but again this is conjecture on my part. Peter
