Italian Citizenship

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Italian Citizenship

I would like to hear from anyone that has become an Italian citizen through their paternal grandparents. My husband\'s grandparents, both on the father and mother\'s side were Italians and never became US citizens. My husband\'s parents were both born in the USA and never renounced Italian citizenship. His grandfather (paternal) and my father-in-law are both deceased. My mother-in-law is alive, but both her parents are deceased. If he tries to obtain citizenship through his mother side, does she need to become an Italian citizen before he does? If he applies through his paternal grandfather and since his father is deceased does he still qualify. (Need to show death records for his father?) What will be the fastest way to apply for Italian citizenship? I thank you for any assistance you can provide me with.
There is an italian organziation with offices in NY and Rome, Italy. You can call 1-888-472-0171 or fax 1-866-728--8919 and go to www.myitalianfamily.com. additional information can be had at www.myitalianfamily.com/record/main/dualcitizen.htm. Only the Italian consulate, however, can advise you directly about your qualification status for dual citizenship. Peter

Got it, I printed all the info and will get to read it and looks like yes, he qualifies. I have called the Italian Consulate here in NY and they have given me a couple of things to get first. 1) grandfather\'s birth certificate, father\'s birth certificate, marriage certificate. Thanks!
