Salvadore and Augustina did live in Albion , NY and my Dad said he was in/drafted for WWI. He had a store there and had a fruit wagon. The name Spalli did ring some bells. We are all going over my Auntie's house tomorrow to see if I can't dig a bit farther.

My grandmother was a widow at about 39 with six kids and was really depressed, from what I hear, and communication was difficult plus there were "things " they probably didn't want the children to hear? My Dad spoke Sicilian to her until she died when he was 14 y/o and never spoke it after that..this he told me about three years ago!!!! The things my parents never told me, how I wish I could speak the language now!!!

Thanks as always!

Marlene,
from 1930 census in Albion
- Salvatore Rinella's wife, Augustina Barone - was she married twice?
---
"Joseph Rubino (Josephine's brother) married Josephine Cancemilla (sp?), they were first cousins ! If I can read my own writing it says they were both morticians! They had two boys. How was a Cancemilla a first cousin?"
Name was probably Cianciamilla.
There are a couple of Joseph Rubino's married to a Josephine.
One in Oakland, one in Campbell. Neither are morticians.
- Do you have any of their children's names?
---
Thanks! Valarie :D

Hello Again-
Here is what I found out yesterday.

Josephine DiMateo had 3 sisters maybe a 4th:

Name ? but married a Catucci and was either married or had a son named Gaspar and he was a dentist. Gaspar Catucci had brothers, Bart, Frank and 2 others. They lived in SanJose, CA

Catherine (aka; Kate !!!) married a Canciamella (1st cousins )

Salvatore married Alario(he went by a nickname) and had daughters , Santa. Mamie, Josie and Mary.

Carmela-I don't think they were really sure on this one- no info.

One of Josephines relatives , either a brother or an Uncle on the mothers side was a Bishop in Rome.

Josephines Son, Joe, married a Cancimella one of Catherines daughters.
(1st cousins)

Josephine's husband never came to the USA and died in Sicily (Trabia?) they didn't know his first name.

My aunt said Kate is Salvadora's daughter and she married an Alario which didn't make sense to me. Then she said Kate is Catherine (Josephines sister-makes sense) Then said Kate (Catherine) was a daughter of the the Cancimella's and she married a Georgetta.

Campangia or Campania near the Unc. Salvadore Rinella in N.York is a cousin, he was a lawyer. No first name given

James Rinella born/died in San Francisco, was an MD and a dentist .

Mary Rinella, my Dads sister, was married to Andy Allono and had a daughter Wilma now married to a Caldwell.

They did not recall the names Luciano Caruso, Salvatore Formosa. My Dad said there are two Canciamella brothers still alive he can ask about the family, if he can find them.

It was very confusing but I do know that Josephine was my great g. mother and that in it's self is a wonderful link!

I went to the LDS library last night but couldn't find any card files or microfilm on Palermo,Sicily or Rinella, nor was there any one that seemed to know much..very disappointed. There were tons of reference materials on how to find info, lol.

I added the link for the 1930 census for James Rubino
and his mother Josephine DiMatteo Rubino. He was a
dentist. (on previous page)
Question for you
How are you keeping your data organized  ?

After yesterdays inqusiton with my Aunt and Dad I realized I need a better way to organize myself  . I did just download some blank family tree forms from the LDS site, can you suggest something better?

Where do I write in Palermo to find my grand parents marrige certificate and birth records? I'm assuming they were born in Trabia, or is there a another avenue I should take?

Marlene,
The LDS forms are terrific :D !
Did you notice their free computer program download?

Your question on Italian records should be answered
by another forum member - I haven't been able to
do this first hand (yet)

So I go back to the LDS and request all those films or should I just order what timeframe would include my g.parents birth/marriage dates are? Start with my grandparents and work my way back if possible?

What does your signature mean?
