Carmela (Carmella) Rubino Rinella is my grandmother. She landed at Ellis Island in 1901 with her husband, Giuseppe (Hinseppe on the ship manifest) Rinella. She was 19 and he was 24. They came from Trabia by way of Naples in 1901 on the Columbia. Carmela was born about 1882 and died in 1931 at age 49, as a widow with six children: Joseph, Mary, Sam (Salvatore), Millie (Carmela), Josie (Josephine) and Filippo (Phil, my dad). I am to understand her mother's name is Josephine Rubino. I don't know if she was born in Trabia,Palermo thought I expect she was, or who her parents or sibilings were. I can find many Carmela Rubinos, but the dates don't match up.
Giuseppe Rinella died at 40 y/o in 1916 in San Jose, Ca. He had a brother Salvatore in Albion, NY and he was married to Augustina Barone (no children). I don't know his parents names. He was very close to the Barone families. Upon arrival to the US Giuseppe and Carmela lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a year, in San Francisco until the 1906 quake, and then bought a ranch (apricot orchard) in the Evergreen area of San Jose, California. We are to understand there is a link between the D'Anna and Rinella names a few generations back with a Rinella marrying a D'Anna and adopting her children. Any help with their history would be appreciated.
