Looking for Iafolla family roots

My husbands surname is Eifolla, his paternal grandfather was Tony "Antonio" "Anthony"?? Iafolla. His grandfather apparently changed the name from Iafolla to Eifolla. My husband has uncles and cousins with the spelling" Iafolla" . We do not know much about his grandfather as his grandparents were divorced when his father was young and he had no contact with his grandfather. I guess the last time his father had any contact with him was when he was about 18 years old, he looked him up in chicago,Il. He died about 1941 or 1942 in chicago,Il. My husbands fathers name was Gerald, he died in 1985. He had a brother John who we believe died during WW11

Furthermore, the best thing for you to do is work backward. Go to the ellisisland.org website and search for the first ancestor who came to the USA. Look him up on the ships manifest for the town of origin and to whom jhe was destined as well as his date of arrival since his age at time of arrival wiull be shown anbd yhou can calculate the year of birth that way. FCurther if you want vital information on someone';s background you can go to the Social security death index and rfequest his SS-05 application which will have more information and furnish his parents names as well. If he was naturalized then yoiu can seek out his naturalization records and request his declaration of intent so that you can see if and when he changed his name formally, legally or informally. I do have some information on this family, I am not sure that there is a connection. Capestrano, Aquila, Italy, this is where they are from. I believe they came over abt or bef 1897 to the United States. They moved to Ironwood, MI and Hurley, WI. Then they came to IN, which is around the Chicagoland area.
