In checking the manifest I find him meeting his brother, Pietro, at 220 S Centre, Mahasery City Am I reading this wrong Does anyone recognize this location
Also under occupation...laborer is written over with the numbers 14-3447 4/19/38. What does this mean

I was born in New York City and it doesn't look familiar to me... but then a lot has changed in 90 plus years. If I find something I will let you know.

The city appears to be Mohansic City but it vould have been a translation error and Mohawk might have been the destination for Francesco since Pietro lived there (why youi nmeed that info is beyond me?) The change made on 4/19/38 was apparently to correct his age at time of entry into the USA in 1910 and the numbers were an administrative reference (see where his age was cancelled out and replaced. The reason I wanted to know the city is because oral family history says Francesco immigrated to Buffalo New York. After a few months Francesco and Pietro left New York for Elkhart, Indiana to work in the steel mill.
Francesco was joined by his wife and son there in 1912. ( Verified by the ship's manifest for their arrival.) I'm trying to track their moves to Saint Paul, Minnnesota in 1916?.
Peter, how do you know Pietro was in Mohawk, New York?
Francesco was born 27 October, 1878, so the birth correction is right.
Who would have made this change?
I'm also confused by the column that says previous entry in the US. It appears to say Francesco was in the US in 1903 in Buffalo NY. That is the year Pietro immigrated but there is no record of them being together.

When Francesco arrived in 1910 his wife Caterina was already in the USA in "Mohanse or Mohawk" and thery muist have subsequentlyu went to join Pietro ijn Edlkhart and settled in some town around there. The change in the age was preobably made at Francescos request because when he went to get some US Goivernemtn document(citizenship probably) his age did not match what his Italian passport had (they used to change the yera of birth in Italy tio avoid going to the army until late so the parents could keep him home a year or so more since they got married after the army). Sorry, this is getting confusing but Caterina Mancuso and her son Salvatore Lonetto did not arrive until 22 July, 1912. I read the manifest saying she was meeting her husband in Elkhart, Indiana. Also it was interesting the name above her's on the manifest, Bruno Cortese, was listed as meeting his cousin, Francesco Lonetto in Elkhart, Indiana. He must have been her escort. That was new information to me.
Is Mohawk, New York near Buffalo, New York?

Go to the ellis Island website and when you bring up the ships manifest click on for the next page of the ships manifest and on line 14 you will get Caterina's address at time of his entry in 1910. Mohawk was just a guess since there is no record for the spelling on the manifest in NY, Minnesota or Indiana. In any event he wound up with Caterina in Indiana. I suspect that he corrected his age to accomodate a petiton to the government for a benefit of some kind and that his italian documents were not correct. Peter

This would mean she was still in his home city Mesoraca, in Italy.
Column 12 is Final Destination:
Mahasery City???? (I was just curious about this name)

Francesco met Pietro in New York and they went together to Elkhart, Indiana. Caterina Mancusco's manifest in 1912 says her destination was Elkhart with Salvatore Lonetto (her son) and Bruno Cortese (escort). Sorry for causing such a fuss over the name of a city.

It is the same city that Pietro was in at the time. "Moharse". The top of that column ask the question if You (francesco) are coming into the USA are you going to a friend or spouse and when questioned he said she was in Maharse, USA and not Italy.Since he was destined to Pietro but gopiong to join his wife in maharsey...I cannot go into this matter without more informatioin, Sorry. sorryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Peter but you are way off base on this one. Caterina was in Mesoraca, Italy until 1912. That has nothing to do with the city Pietro was in. If you don't believe me pull Caterina Mancuso up on the Ellis Island site. My only question is still understanding destination city where Francesco met Pietro in the state of New York.

Caterina, the spouse is indicates as being in Italy and the USA on the entry of Francesco Lonetto in 1910 and as you say she was also on another manifest that you located. I am not saying anything other than whjat the records reflect. It is your decison to determine which is accurate.I do not speculate and when I do I make it known that I am speculating and not basing my speculation on any facts. Caterina's name only appears one time on Francesco's manifest:
In Column 11 the heading is "Name and Address of nearest relative or friend in the country whence the alien came"
The answer is....Caterina Mancuso....Mesoraca
There is no indication she was in the US.

It is not the name of a USA town....it is Mesoraca (Italy), the home city of Francesco. You are confusing Mesoraca with the destination city that is in question.
