Having to obtain many records from Castellammare di Stabia, I can say they are very quick to respond.

You do need to specify the long form for your records. They tend to want to do an extract rather than copy the actual record.

Thank you for the information. I cannot find Catello's arrival into the US either. If he arrived in 1890 he would not arrive at Ellis Island but at Castle Garden instead, I've searched their web site many times with no luck. I'll keep trying, I already have my Grandfather Vincenzo's birth certificate and Catello's naturalization papers (my father had them). I'll keep trying to find Catello's arrival here. Thank you again.

Hey Joe, don't forget Philadelphia and some of the other Atlantic ports to search. Castle Garden was not the only one back then.

Thanks a lot, I never even knew about those other ports. Ah, the things I'm learning as I dig deeper into my family tree.

Hi!
I thought I'd put Catello's 1918 WWI Card on the original post with the other records that suanj :D found for him.
No help in locating his manifest.
I wonder why his name was corrected in Naples in 1901?
I don't suppose he needed to be in Naples to request it?

great find the 1900 census! Thanks Valarie, another piece of puzzle! also in this census Catello declaring 1890 year of immigration!
Abt the second wife, yes, Maria Regato was the second wife... Giovannina , first wife, died or they divorced? However Joe, for dual citizenship must have all documents abt the lineage ( Vincenzo jr aka James in 1910 census), so
-Catello birth, marriage( 1th), death, naturalization, arrival
-Giovannina birth, death, arrival
-Vincenzo jr, birth, marriage, death
etc...
abt Giovannina, by marriage record, we know abt parent's names:
abt Giovannina Cifaldi she was the daughter of Filomeno CIFALDI and Concetta ARIEMMA;
in 1905 census:
Name: Giovannina Cifaldi
Residence: Manhattan, New York, New York
Age: 16
Estimated Birth Year: 1889
Birthplace: Italy
Relationship to Head of Household: Niece
Race: W
Gender:
Family Number: 34
Page Number: 78
Line Number: 1
Film Number: 1428423
Digital Folder Number: 4518298
Image Number: 00569

I found a Giovanna Cifaldi coming from Campobasso( town or province? who know?) arrived in USA in 1904 and joining at father Angelo, 88 Muberry st NY..

I found Giovannina Cifaldi niving with uncle Francesco Battista ( age 45, in USA from 16 years, alien) and aunt Libera ( age 40 in USA from 16 years, alien), in 1905 census( the Battistas are in previous page):
Name: Giovannina Cifaldi
Residence: Manhattan, New York, New York
Age: 16
Estimated Birth Year: 1889
Birthplace: Italy
Relationship to Head of Household: Niece
Race: W
Gender:
Family Number: 34
Page Number: 78
Line Number: 1
Film Number: 1428423
Digital Folder Number: 4518298
Image Number: 00569

New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
about Giovanna Cifaldo
Name: Giovanna Cifaldo ( Cifaldi; Giovannina is the diminutive of Giovanna)
Arrival Date: 22 Jun 1904
Birth Year: abt 1889
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Italian (South) (Italian)
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Prinz Adalbert

but on marriage record the father first name was Filomeno..
however Ariemma, the maiden name of Giovannina mother is a surname of Santa Croce di Magliano town in Campobasso province
however the Giovannina age matching and the immigration year also...

well, the search is in progress, we must hope....

abt the amendment surname of Catello, I believe that also if the judge sentence was 1901, surely the Catello's father or the mother, asked the amendment before, when the family emigrated and needing of passports, and the Catello surname was different from father surname...
a
nd because the amendment was ( and it is) made ex officio, maybe Catello no interested more in that, being in USA, and that can explain why Catello used Zurlo/Zurolo surname in USA ...
in effects the surname amendment had effects only in Italy, but however it have effects in the birth certificate request and it issue by Castellammare di Stabia civil records office......

oh yes you found 1910 census of Catello, but 1900 census of Carmela.. I believe that Catello and parents was neighbors of Carmela, so in my next free time I wish search page by page .. I believe that Catello and parents was in same district...

Great work my friends! Here is some more Catello Zullo information from the few original documents I have:

Catello Zurlo was naturalized on December 3rd, 1946 at the age of 65.
He resided at 279 Court St., Brooklyn, NY
Marital status is widower.
1934 Vehicle registration he resided at 302 Union St. Brooklyn
Registration Certificate he lived at 370 or 320 Degraw St Brooklyn.
He moved around a lot and owned a few building in Brooklyn, before spending all his money to fight his cancer. He once beat my grandfather with a petrified cow tail, this has nothing to do with my Italy quest, I just wanted to let you know he was a messed up guy. Thanks again!
