Information needed on Licata family from San Biagio Platani

Post by Isiciliangal1959 »

My grandfather, Antonio Licata, born in 1881 in San Biagio Platani, came to America in the early 1900's. He left his home to his sister. I don't know her name. I need to find out about the family he left behind. His father left his mother in Italy and moved to Argentina changed his name and started a new family. Any ideas were to start?

There are currently several families named Licata in San Biagio Platani and I am wondering if we are related.

Any help would be wonderful. Thank you! Michelle

You could send out correspondence to these families:

Potential relative letter

And the following site has immigrant arrivals into Argentina:

Radici

registration required but is free...

Several possibilities in US records....can you provide any additional detail?
Where in the US did he reside? Exact date of birth? Spouse's name, including maiden surname, children - names and birth dates, or at least a year.
With a ship's manifest or other US record we may be able to discover more identifying information to assist you in searching Italian records.

Thank you very much. I will follow through on your suggestions. :D

His name was Antonio (Tony) Licata born 6 Nov 1881 in San Biagio Platani. He was single at the time. He came looking for my grandma who had come over in the late 1890's with her family. I don't know how long it took him to find her but in the meantime, she married someone else and had 8 children. They finally met up in Texas - Jasper, Port Arthur somewhere around there. They ran off with the 8 kids to Hollywood, CA and then to San Jose, CA where they stayed until they died. My aunt thinks he came through Ellis Island but when someone checked the records when they were at Ellis Island they could not find his name.

I found him on the 1920 US Census in California but he seems to be a mystery man before that. My dad said he lived in Colorado and worked in the coal mines for awhile. Not sure of the dates.

Thank you again for your help.
