Tracing back anzalone Geneology

Post by smaroda »

looking for any help relating to Anzalone's in Italy. About 1905 Dominik and Dominica Anzalone came to America through Ellis Island. They brought their oldest son Alphose Anzalone.

I'm trying to find their birth and marriage certificates but have no clue as to what town they came from. Supposedly they left the port of Napal and were living in the area but I can not confirm.

Anzalone, Dominik, Estimated Birth Year:
1881,

Anzalone, Dominica, Estimated Birth
Year: 1883
(maiden name was Costabile)
Unsure of year of marriage.

Dear Smaroda perhaps if you help me I can help you locate the town of origin which is the reason for your intial inquiry.

I located Alfonso Anzalone arriving on 6/23/1897 at age 10 from GOSCIANO. I cannot locate Gosciano as a comune or a frazione since this is his town of origin in Italy. Can you enlighten us?? =Peter=

Vj thanks for the help. Everything you pulled was accurate. I submitted the information to the us government to get an index search done to see if I can get his file pulled. I'm hoping the naturalization papers will have the town of birth or providence. If you can think of any other way to trace it let me know.

Here's a neat story about (probably) Domenico & Domenica's son Bartolomeo Anzalone
He is on the 1920 census with a sister Angelina.
Apparently both were born in Italy
If Domenico followed traditional naming patterns, Bartolomeo may have been named after Domenico's father

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/1489/anzalone.jpg

Towns of origin are usually found on ship manifests, 1917-1918 & 1942 military registation cards (for men born between abt 1870-1900) and social security applications for folks who died after abt 1962...

Michaels reference to Goceano I suspect is the town of origin reflected in the ships manifest for Alfonso Anzalone arrival date of June 23,1897 but spelled or mispelled Gosciano which I mentioned above. =Peter=

I see. The manifest you found Peter was unfortunately the wrong one. Bart, Dominica, and Dominik all came over on the same boat from what I understand. The record date has veried between 1904-1906. I have copies coming from the Mormons in AZ and copies of the naturalization records being dug up by homeland security. Hopefully I will be able to find the next set of records in Italy.

I believe they were coming from Calvanico (Salerno Province - Campania Region)

http://www.comune.calvanico.sa.it/

This is because I found a arrival manifest for Alfonsina Costabile coming from Calvanico, joining her brother in law Domenico Anzalone
This girl didn't travel that time, her name is crossed out, but details are clearly readable...

Boston Passenger Lists, 1820-1943
about Alfonsina Costabile
Name: Alfonsina Costabile
Arrival Date: 19 Apr 1910
Age: 20 Years
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1890
Gender: Female
Ethnic Background: Italian (South) (Italian)
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ship Name: Lazio
Port of Arrival: Boston, Massachusetts
Friend's Name: Dco Asalone
Last Residence: Italy
Birthplace: Calvameo, Italy
Microfilm Roll Number: 147

(possible she was Domenica's sister) ....
she stated she was leaving in Calvanico her mother Rosaria she was joining her brother in law Domenico Ansalone in Mount Pleasant PA

I believe also this is the correct arrival manifest for Domenico:

New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
about Domenico Ansalone
Name: Domenico Ansalone
Arrival Date: 6 Apr 1906
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1881
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Italian (South) (Italian)
Ship Name: Prinzess Irene
Search Ship Database: Search the Prinzess Irene in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Line: 28
Microfilm Serial: T715
Microfilm Roll: T715_688
Page Number: 3

Married, from Calvanico to Chicago, joining his brother in law Giuseppe Costabile

manifest image:
[img=http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/4678/a ... 906.th.jpg]

on the 1920 census manifest it seems that they arrived in different years, Domenico for first and then Domenica and their child.
