need information about a Giovanni Morone
need information about a Giovanni Morone
Americanized to John Morone. He was born in Benevento in 1874. He was married to a woman named Stefanina Simoncini (sp?), who was born in Palermo in 1881.
They came to this country and were married here, in NYC around the turn of the century.
We're trying to find their exact dates of birth, and the date they came here. We assume they came through Ellis Island but are not sure of this either. Hubby and I have been looking for information on them for some time now with no real luck.
If anyone could help us out, that would be wonderful. Thanks in advance from a newcomer to the site!
p.s. We do have his naturalization certificate which I will be scanning for addition to this post.

Re: need information about a Giovanni Morone
Thanks very much for this website--though I do not speak or read Italian. Is this a place I should send a form letter to? What we are looking to do, ultimately, is get our Italian passports. Any further advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm so glad we could help!
Take your time, we'll be here when you're ready.

A note on dual citizenship documents that may help:
We would usually recommend that you gather as many of your US documents as you can first.
Since both Benevento and Palermo are comunes and provinces, you'll need to know the exact comune that they were born in to obtain their birth records.
Ship manifests and military records often have the town of orgin. Sometimes marriage records can also help.

Re: need information about a Giovanni Morone
vj--this is amazing. It definitely looks like her. I'm horrible at genealogy and tracing roots, and I didn't expect to find such amazing help so quickly. Sincerely, I can't thank you enough.
Re: need information about a Giovanni Morone
I'm still working on the transcription.
We'll need to confirm her travelling companion and who she was joining to see if we have the correct person.
I'll add more manifest details to the above post
More help should join us tomorrow!

Re: need information about a Giovanni Morone
Hi vj
The Ellis Island manifest is a little clearer (not much)
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0017
Going to join grandmother Angela (can't read the last name) at 322 East 53 St. Flushing, NY. Don't think she was travelling with anyone else.

Hi mj !
You're right it's clearer.
I sure can't make out her grandmother's surname 8O
perhaps Sorice

Re: need information about a Giovanni Morone
I think the name is Soresi. There are a number of people with this name from Partinico.
Re: need information about a Giovanni Morone
mj , you're right, Soresi looks more likely.
bellini,
Not having much luck locating the family on census records in the US.
Where did they live?
Children's names and birth dates?
Thanks! Valarie

Re: need information about a Giovanni Morone
vj, I have that information right here, let me get my notebook.
They lived at 320 E. 59th St, NY NY. He was naturalized on March 8, 1921 at 47 years of age. My hubby's father says that they lived on the island of Manhattan, almost directly underneath the 59th St. bridge?
John and Fannie, as she was called here in the states had seven children together--I only have their years of birth, not their dates. I'm sorry about that.
Mary, born in 1904
Rose, born in 1905
Henrietta, born in 1907
Domenick (not sure on the spelling, but this is the way it appears on the naturalization certificate) born in 1911
Joseph, born in 1912
Alfred, born in 1914
and Arthur, who was born in 1920.
Would it help you to see the naturalization certificate? I can scan that for you if it would be useful.

Re: need information about a Giovanni Morone
I do have a question about the marriage certificate just for clarity before I send the request in--is the certificate number 1905 (1902)? I believe this is it but I want to make sure before I send.
Thanks!
Thanks!
