Yannuzzi and Fazano family name

Post by stephan1e »

Hi:)

I'm Stephanie and my grandmother was Julia Theresa Yannuzzi born in New Jersey. Her mothers last name was Fazano. I have written a few people with my grandmothers last name, but they never reply! I just wonder where she came from in Italy and where the Fazano name is from. If anyone has an idea, I would love to know. Thank you!

Hi,
if you can provide more details, where they lived in New Jersey, the birthyear, and also the first name of Julia Theresa mother, maybe we can help... the surname could be Fasano and not Fazano...
best regards,
suanj

Yes that is her! They spelled her last name wrong on there as you can see, so you are right- her mothers name might be wrong too. I only know my dad was born in Jersey City, so maybe she was also. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much. I only had her name and I knew she was Italian. That will really help me. I haven't seen her since I was 14, so I don't know anything. Thank you so much for all your hard work!

I just wanted to suggest that the original Italian spelling of the cognome is almost certainly "Iannuzzi", a name which is very common in modern Italy, as opposed to Yannuzzi which is non-existent. Click here to use cognome mapping tool.

For the uninitiated, the "I-a" or "I-o"dipthongs when pronounced quickly can easily sound like "Ya" or "Yo", a common result of which is the perversion of "Iolanda" into the anglicized "Yolanda".

Thank you! My grandmother had 14 brothers and sisters in New jersey back in the day, so if you saw a yannuzzi family like that-it was probably them LOL! I Was wondering if her fathers name was Joseph because she was Julia. Just my instinct. Thanks again to all of you.

Hi, this is the ONLY Julia Yannuzzi born in NJ around 1922/3, so must be your ancestor; I searched in all NJ and it are only 1 Julia Yannuzzi matching... father Frank, mother Antoinette F Yannuzzi... I believe is right!
