Need help finding manifest for GGF ~1895 to NYC

Post by Rodio »

I am searching for the manifest for the ship that my GGF arrived to NYC. I suspect he had some brothers traveling with him, but I couldn't find the manifest when searching at the library some time ago.

His info:

Giuseppe Trama
born 1874, Rodio, Salerno, Italy
His US Naturalization Petition lists his date of entry into the US as May 1895 from Naples, Italy on SS Blanc Vigi.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Rodio is a frazione or section of the town of Pisciotta, Salerno Province.

This is the only possibility I found. Are you sure he came through NY?

His naturalization petition lists NYC as port of entry. I do not have any other proof of this.

It likely is him--he was a coal miner in Hazelton, PA--even though his age is way off.

Thanks for your help.

Here is the manifest, unfortunately it doesn't give a lot of information.

Where did he settle when he got here?

He arrived on November 4, 1900 on the SS Patria destined to Hazelton at age 18. =Peter=

Misbris_ Just thinking about this--It is possible that this is a cousin of my GGF, given that he listed Pisciotta instead of Rodio (there are several Tramas in both areas today), the large age discrepancy (his Italian birth cert as well as his marriage, naturalization and death records list either 1874 or 1875 as birth year), and that I do remember seeing my GGF on the 1900 census as a single man in Hazleton, PA. (The other ? Giuseppe Trama arrived in November 1900--I think it'd be unlikely he'd make it on that census.) Do you have access to the census records for 1900--to see the date they took that census in Hazleton?

Thanks for your help.

There's a listing for a Giuseppe (Joseph) Trama on the 1900 census--I dont have ancestry access on my computer--can go to the library for this. I know the top of census records list the date they were taken--I need this date to figure out if the Giuseppe Trama on the Patria is my GGF.

Availabiulity of census records about individuals can be found at www.census.gov.

Select census 1900 and zero in on Giuseppe Trama, Hazelton, Luzerne county Pernnsylvania. There may have been a late insertion into the census. Please keep us advised. =Peter=

1900 census shows Joseph, John, and Neil Trama as boarders in Hazle Township, Luzerne PA. I don't do well trying to post from Ancestry, but here is the info.

Joseph----- born April 1872 immigration 1896
John--------born Oct. 1876 " " 1900
Neil---------born Jan. 1877 " " 1900

I don't know how John and Neil made the 1900 census, but they did. I'll look again for manifests with these dates.

The Joseph Trama on the 1900 census is more likely my GGF. His birth year is closer to his actual, as is his arrival date (1896). What is the date on the census record sheet for 1900?

Are there any other ports of entry that may have had a ship called "Blanc Vigi" or something similar for 1895?

I believe Neil Trama should have been Aniello Trama, from Pisciotta, who arrived on April 23, 1900... he stated he was joining his cousins Francesco, Giuseppe and Stefano in Hazeltown.
