Can't find immigration record

Post by Squigy »

I've searched on Ancestry.com and EllisIsland.com, but I have not been able to find an immigration record for my great great grandfather, Vincenzo Fiorelli (I have also seen it spelled Fiorillo), so I'm turning it over to you to see if you can find anything. He was born in the year 1872 (give or take a year or two). I believe he was born in San Mango d'Aquino (this is where his wife was born, and Fiorillo is a common name there). According to the census, he came here in 1897. I'm not sure that was the year, but I am sure he came her no later than 1906 and no earlier than 1896. Anyway, thanks to all who reply.
My Italian surnames:

Caserta: Maietta, Rossano, Tessitore, Negro, Peluso, Musone

Campobasso: D'Andrea, Barile

Catanzaro: Fiorelli/Fiorillo, Romito

..... and in the 1920 census manifest he stated 1902 as immigration year...
It makes sense considering his son Raffaele was born in Italy on 1901...

Wow, those Census records alone are great finds. He usually went by Vincent Fiorelli, so I never thought to look up James.

I did find an immigration record (which I have seen several times before) that seems to match well, here:

Name: Vincenzo Fiorillo
Arrival Date: 8 May 1901
Estimated birth year: abt 1872
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Italian
Ship Name: Balilla
Search Ship Database: Search the Balilla in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Line: 19
Microfilm Serial: 15
Microfilm Roll: T715_192
Page Number: 22

Only, he was living in San Massimo, which is 5 hours away from San Mango d'Aquino (where his wife was living when she came here). His son, Raffael, was born on Oct 31 1900, so 1901 can still be a possibility. What do you think of the immigration record above? Do you think they made a mistake on his place of birth?
My Italian surnames:

Caserta: Maietta, Rossano, Tessitore, Negro, Peluso, Musone

Campobasso: D'Andrea, Barile

Catanzaro: Fiorelli/Fiorillo, Romito

mmhhh... I don't believe he was "your" Vincenzo...age is 25, so birth year was approx 1876.... and last place of residence is clearly San Massimo...
but it's a record to consider...

I believe it said 29, which would mean he was born in 1872. It's hard to tell, though. At any rate, the fact that he lived in San Massimo makes me think it isn't him. As you said, it's a record to consider.

number is: 19007-20
date is: 15/5/903

it was an old way to write the number 5...

see the number 9 a few lines above Vincenzo.. it's different from the 5 in the 25...
