Hello Marc!
Found the same surname spelling, but it was in Pittsburgh in 1910
Possible relation or a coincidence?
Thank you,
Valarie
Valarie: my apologies, it was Pittsburgh as you noted, not Philadelphia.

What info do you have?

I strongly suspect that neither Marispini nor Maraspini is the correct/original Italian spelling of your name. It is going to be difficult at best, impossible at worst, to move forward with your research before you resolve the spelling issue.

Johnny: unfortunately all I have is the story from my Grandfather, and the 1910 census information from Pittsburgh. :(

Where did your family settle? Did they stay in PA, or move elsewhere? Do you know Dominic's occupation, name of his wife, children? These clues might help us track him down.

Do the trees on Ancestry belong to you?
Misbris: ultimately they settled around San Antonio, Texas, but I heard he died before his widow and children may have moved there. I know one of his children, my Great-Grandfather is named Joseph D Marispini. The 1910 census information said he was a power house laborer. The extended family has since grouped in Utah, California, Nevada, Arizona, and (where I and some other family are) Minnesota. I have one tree on Ancestry.com. It's under my screen name spini937.

Could the name have been Malaspina?
I know that in the Calabrese dialects the "r" and "l" are very often changed. I know also that before the start of the Civil State the name was commonly written as Malaspine or Malaspini. To my knowledge today only remained Malaspina. But in rural dialects it is pronounced as Maraspina
It is a very common name in the province of Reggio Calabria. As a matter of fact my wine suplier is called Malapina and he selles the best wine in the world (and that is not to discuss)

Thank you, that's a terrific idea.
Malaspina/i is also a much more common surname in the United States

Valarie,
My father has informed me that address is the address my Great-Grandfather lived at until his death in 1993. We're 99 percent sure that would be our family.

Thank you for the update!

From the census
- married before 1903
- children born 1903 thru 1916 in TX
- Domenic died after 1915 probably in TX

Can't locate the family on the 1910 census
The Domenic in Pittsburgh in 1910 was listed as single, it may not be the correct census

Could Domenic have gone by a different 1st name?

Thanks, Valarie

Another possiblity from this family page on rootsweb by cynthia tupper

Maria Davila married twice
Children on the 1920 census may not all belong to Domenico

Name: Maria MARISPINI
Given Name: Maria
Surname:
Sex: F
Death: 1964 in San Antonio, TX
Melchor Reyna 1st husband
Dominico Marispini 2nd husband
- possibly married in Galveston TX

Looks like the census official was a little off on the name there  My dad did confirm the information though. So it's pretty probable that the census information relates to the family.
