various spellings

Post by figlia »

I have run out of ideas for variations on the name Pucillo. Specifically
Gioachino Pucillo/Puccillo. My grandfather used umpteen different spellings of his first name Gioachino. His gravestone says Giachino, his draft card says John, people called him Jack. His marriage record says Joachim. I have run out of my own ideas.
Help please?
thank you

Can be spelled Gioacchino or Gioachino. English translation Joachim. Nickname Jack.

Pucillo is much more common that Puccillo.

If it is Puccillo, it will be a lot easier to trace.

Is there a particular record you are trying to locate? On manifests, draft cards, and censuses for example, it is not only the way the name was written on the document but the way it was transcribed into the indexes which interferes with our ability to locate records.

I am trying to find his manifest. I have his draft card, his naturalization card, I can't find the complete application for naturalization (not sure if I looked everywhere for the application or not) I have him in the 1929 census and the 1930. I can't think of anymore variations on my own. He eventually became known as Jack in the late 20's or 30's.
Where can I find his application for naturalization and not just the card which tells me nothing. The card says Giachino Pucillo his address his age (60) dathe of admission is May 17th, 1937 the certificate was issued the same day. I have found the nat app for his brother. It's frustrating.

Have you tried the paying site www.footnote.com which you can access for a cursory check (informative though ) and if its what you are seeking then eikther pay $3.00 for each step or so or take a 7 day trial period. =Peter=

Postscript: If you go to www.gens.,labo.net/en/cognomi and put in the Pucillo and all its variations one by one inthe upper left you willsee that Pucillo seems to be up there with 81 citiesm towns and villages. I would suggest you use all the variations of the family surname and you will see that is most likely the name to rely on as your family name spelling.

Personally I prefer PUCILLO since it is a surname from a local area in Italy and not designated as an Italian surname over history and geography in the Italian surname dictionary. =Peter=
