Not really, I copy/paste the commune link into it (babelfish)and have found that I can navigate through several pages without effort.

It is very likely that local people would refer to the town using the short name Vallo.

That's correct. In Italy there are two other towns whose name begin with Vallo:

Vallo Torinese, Torino province
Vallo di Nera, Perugia province

and also a small locality called Vallo, which is part of the municipality of Caluso, near Torino.

Im confused about where the accent is in words ending in "ia". Like lucania, nicosia, catania,etc.

For example, is Lucania:

loo-KHAN-ee-ah
or
loo- khan-EE-ah
