PACE or PACI

Post by susanpaci »

Hi, I am brand new to this site and speak no italian. All of a sudden I have a deep interest in researching my family from Italy. I know that my father came to Ellis Island from Mussameli Sicily on 12-26-1916. He was 12 at the time. His birth name was Espedito, later changed to Frank. He came over with his mother Giovanna Cimo. The name at some point in the US was changed to PACI, not sure how or when. They settled in Lodi, NJ. I have never done any research previously but I would like to give my kids some background on where at least some of their family came from.

Ok, what I have been able to figure out so far is that Guiseppe Pace (Paci) my grandfather came over to the US in 1906 with his brother Ignazio, went back to Italy and came back in 1913 with someone related to him by the name of Rosa. His wife Giovanna Cimi came over in 1916 with 5 of their children. Another son, Ignazio came over in 1913 by himself at the age of 16. They originally came over to Passaic, NJ. Second St. then Mattimore St. eventually moving to 18 Avenue A in Lodi per the 1920 census.

Please excuse the length of this post.
As Peter suggested you can write to Mussomeli for records, and/or you can see the records for yourself at your local Family History Center.

Using the link to the form letters that Peter provided, you would write for civil records here:

Comune di Mussomeli
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Piazza della Repubblica
93014 Mussomeli CL
ITALY

---

Your nearest Family History Center can order microfilmed records of Mussomeli.
The cost is about $6 mo (rent), you’ll need to go to the center to order & view them.
You may want to call first to verify the hours they're open (link below)
