Looking for information about Carmela Farina my great grandmother who came from Cassino to England in about 1903.she had 5 children, 2 died ,according to the 1911 census. The remaining children were Domonic Farina,Frederick Farina and Joseph Farina, my grandfather.
What was Italy, like especially Cassino at the time she left?

Re: Cassino family history
Life was hard. If you had some land to grow food and keep chickens you survived. Otherwise you starved. If the land on which the family lived was at its limit to support the family then you found a boy/girl to marry whose land could still support another family. Otherwise you emigrated.
It is unlikely you will find birth or marriage records for your family as Cassino records were destroyed during WW2 and only people living in the area after the war reconstructed their records.
